Kids Orthodontics.

Sometimes, growing teeth need extra help.

We specialise in kid’s orthodontics.

ORTHODONTICS

We all want our kids to enjoy the benefits of healthy teeth for life. As dentists, we might describe that as optimal oral outcomes, but most people just say “good teeth”. Orthodontics can play a vital role in developing good teeth.

It’s all about providing enough space for permanent teeth to grow correctly. Here’s some information on why and the various stages where early intervention makes a difference.

Affordable family dentistry that keeps financial pain to a minimum.

EARLY INTERVENTION ORTHODONTICS

Some children display early signs of minor orthodontic irregularities. In such cases, our dentists might choose to monitor the situation over time without any intervention. However, for children who display severe orthodontic irregularities, early orthodontic treatment can provide many benefits, including:

Enhanced self-confidence and aesthetic appearance

Increased likelihood of proper jaw growth

Increased likelihood of properly aligned and spaced adult teeth

Reduced risk of bruxing (teeth grinding)

Reduced risk of childhood cavities, periodontal disease, and tooth decay

Reduced risk of impacted teeth as an adult

Reduced risk of protracted orthodontic treatments in later years

Reduced risk of speech problems

Reduced risk of tooth, gum, and jawbone injury

When is the right time for my child to begin early orthodontic treatment? Our dentists recognise three age-related stages of orthodontic treatment.
Stage 1
Stage 1

Early treatment (5 – 6 years old)

Early orthodontic treatment aims to guide and regulate the width of both dental arches. The main goal of early treatment is to provide enough space for the permanent teeth to grow correctly. Good candidates for early treatment include: children who have difficulty biting properly, children who lose baby teeth early, children whose jaws click or grind during movement, children who grind their teeth, and children who use the mouth (as opposed to the nose and mouth) to breathe.

During the early treatment phase, our dentists also work with parents and children to eliminate orthodontically harmful habits, like excessive pacifier use and thumb sucking. The dentist may also provide one of a variety of dental appliances to promote jaw growth, hold space for adult teeth (space maintainers), or to prevent the teeth from ‘shifting’ into undesired areas.

Stage 2
Stage 2

Middle dentition (6 – 12 years old)

The goals of middle dentition treatments are to realign wayward jaws, to start to correct crossbites, and to begin the process of gently straightening misaligned permanent teeth.

Middle dentition marks a developmental period when the soft and hard tissues are extremely pliable. It can be the best time to begin to correct any malocclusion. Malocclusion means that the teeth are not aligned properly and the upper and lower teeth don’t bite together correctly.

At this stage, we may recommend a dental appliance. Some appliances (like braces) are fixed and others are removable. Regardless of the appliance, your child will still be able to speak, eat, and chew in a normal fashion. However, children who are fitted with fixed dental appliances should take extra care to clean the entire oral region each day in order to reduce the risk of staining, decay, and any future cosmetic damage.

Stage3
Stage3

Adolescent dentition (13+ years old)

Adolescent dentition is what springs to most parents’ minds when they think of orthodontic treatment. Some of the main goals of adolescent dentition include straightening the permanent teeth and improving the aesthetic appearance of the smile.

BRACES

Looking for fixed dental braces? Here’s some information to chew over.

What are fixed braces?

Fixed braces are made of metal or ceramic ‘brackets’ that are attached to each tooth. These are linked by a special wire that is shaped with a memory. Over time, we make small adjustments to the wire to straighten teeth into their correct place.

*A free, no-obligation one-on-one information session is available to learn more about the fixed braces procedure. A dental examination is required prior to treatment where one of our dentists will conduct an initial examination, orthodontic assessment, explain your treatment options, and perform diagnostic work. You may also be recommended to have a hygiene appointment.

DENTOLOGY DENTAL CARE ORTHODONTICS

How much do fixed braces cost?
We will explain the costs during your initial consultation. We have flexible payment options available and we can discuss these during your consultation. Since Fixed Braces fall under Orthodontic Treatment, these costs may qualify for Health Insurance reimbursement. We also have Hicaps terminals which allow you to claim
your rebate on the spot. If you are unsure whether or not your Private Health Insurance covers your orthodontic treatment, we can provide you with the item codes so that you can confirm with your health fund. Prices for fixed braces may be subject to change without notice.
What are the advantages of fixed braces?
Fixed braces are a great option because you don’t have to do a lot once they are in place. Treatment times are generally shorter and highly predictable. Fixed braces are a suitable option if you require complex tooth movement because they provide very precise adjustment.
What are the steps involved with this as a treatment option?

Step 1: Book in for your free information session

Our Treatment Coordinators will give you general information about the Fixed Braces process. They will also give you information about Dentology Dental Care practices and procedures.

Step 2: Dental Examination

At your examination appointment, your dentist will conduct a full examination, orthodontic assessment and begin the process of radiographic  X-rays. They will explain the various treatment options for straightening your teeth and discuss any pros, cons and risk factors. You may also have X- rays, photographs and digital impressions taken to help create a treatment plan for straightening your teeth.

Step 3: Create your treatment plan

We will then use the diagnostic information to further assess your situation virtually, and begin to create a treatment plan using our 3D computer imaging technology.

Step 4: Review

Once the treatment plan has been created, you will be invited to attend an appointment with our Treatment Coordinator and the dentist in charge. The treatment plan will be presented to you for review. You will be able to ask the Treatment Coordinator general questions about payments and the process. At this appointment, we will be able to answer any clinical questions you may have.

Step 5: Consent to proceed

If you choose to accept your treatment plan, you will receive a Fixed Braces Contract, which includes payment information as well as an Informed Consent document. We will only proceed with your treatment when we are satisfied you are fully aware of your treatment options and that you have consented to proceed.

Step 6: Treatment Commences

About every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on your situation, you will visit our clinic to ensure your treatment is progressing properly. These appointments take about 30 – 45 minutes each.

Step 7: Retainers and reviews

Once you complete your treatment, it is extremely important for retention to take place. You will be required to use retainers as a way to maintain your treatment results. You will be responsible for scheduling follow up review appointments.
